IT seems that some tips and advice from a true legend of the table really paid off for a team from the Chalk Farm Pool League as they went on to pocket a commanding victory over the defending champions.

King’s Cross Hurricanes brushed aside reigning champs Sir Robert Peel 7-2 in a one-sided Division One encounter on Monday night – with the memory of meeting snooker great Jimmy “The Whirlwind” White fresh in their minds.

The former world No 2, who was also known as the “People’s Champion”, stunned players from the Hurricanes when he turned up at their home club in King’s Cross.

Joking about their nicknames, skipper Alp Sezer (pictured right) said: “They call me the Tornado because of how quickly I can clear the table.

“So now the Tornado has met the Whirlwind and together we stirred up a Hurricane.

“Jimmy was every bit the legend you’d expect him to be. He had a chat with the boys, played a few games and was more than happy to pose for a picture or two.”

The convincing win over Sir Robert Peel leaves Hurricanes five points clear at the top of Division One table having pocketed four wins from their opening six games.

Boston Arms are second, but having played a game less, will be confident that they can take over top spot before Christmas.
