A MASKED man was arrested in Upper Holloway in the early hours of this morning after he was caught carrying a bag containing a Samurai sword.

Police were called shortly after midnight (Friday) to reports of a group of youths in Hornsey Road, near the junction with Tollington Park, armed with bricks and sticks. As officers arrived a man wearing a hockey-style mask ran off, carrying a large bag.

Officers gave chase and detained the suspect, and found a Samurai-style sword in the bag.

The man, believed aged 21, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and taken into custody at a north London police station.

No further arrests have been made.

The investigation by Islington Police continues.
