LETTERS: Narrow boats make canal towpath safer

Published: 6 December, 2013

YOUR article (Canal could become a floating caravan park, November 29) talks about colourful open spaces but the narrow boats help to make the area colourful.

In winter, without them the canal would look bleak.

Around Noel Road the narrow boats are only on one side of the canal. The other side of the canal has no boats moored and has very few visitors.

While the boats are lived on most of the time the people are well behaved. Many of the boats are immaculate and almost all of their generators are sound-proofed. Hardly a floating caravan park

Importantly, by having the boats there and people around they make the towpath a safer place to walk along.
