Diabetic’s decomposed body was found in flat near Emirates Stadium

Published: 25 November, 2016

A 33-year-man who suffered from diabetes lay dead in his flat for almost a month before he was discovered.

Fatai Abdullahi, who lived in Talbot House, a tower block close to the Emirates Stadium, was found in the bath on July 21 but could have died up to four weeks earlier, according to pathologist Dr Liina Palm. His body was in the “advanced stages of decomposition”, St Pancras Coroner’s Court heard on Wednesday.

Mr Abdullahi, who also had mental health problems, had been without medication for both of his conditions for several months before his death.

His mental health team at North Islington Rehabilitation and Recovery team were keen to speak to him as he was at a high risk of relapse without his medication.

He was last seen by his family in June but they told mental health professionals they had no concerns about Mr Abdullahi.

Dr Palm found no evidence of drugs in his system and no evidence of disease.

Mr Abdullahi died of natural causes, complicated by his insulin dependency, the coroner ruled.
